The third vice president of the Government and minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera , has highlighted that a large part of the 11,000 million euros allocated to energy within European funds have been allocated for self-consumption and behind-the-meter storage programs.

In her speech at the III Conference on European Funds organized by newspaper.es, the minister pointed out that in the last five years self-consumption has grown by 1,200%.

Ribera also explained during his speech that until Phone Lead now the European strategy has been to bet on globalization, but the pandemic and the war in Ukraine have shown that globalization needs to be "rebalanced" and come to "a much healthier response combining local with global".

The minister declared this Monday that the European Commission is experiencing an " open challenge " from the most conservative parties regarding the green agreement . For this reason, she has pointed out that it is important to know what each political party proposes regarding the energy system.

Furthermore, the third vice president has indicated that there are "tensions" in Europe. In this sense, she has commented on the German case, whose government "is under pressure that it has managed to resolve" or the French case, which experiences "a kind of feeling that its industry is not having the weight it would expect."

During her intervention, she also commented on the case of "some" Eastern countries, "with a more conservative interpretation of energy evolution." In this context, Ella Ribera has pointed out that we must opt for a "united Europe."

"Green hydrogen will be a new economic pole for Spain The minister has described green hydrogen as "a new economic pole" for Spain. This source would allow decarbonization in those cases where deelectrification is not enough.

Ribera has been optimistic regarding this issue and has assured that Spain could be "at the forefront of the new hydrogen economy", exporting its excess production to Europe.

In fact, the first hydrogen plant in southern Europe is in Mallorca , as pointed out by the minister, who also recalled the projects in Puertollano, Algeciras and Huelva, which are "locating on the map where they want to test how it is produced." and if its use is so effective as to displace other fossil fuels.
